All Around Me has been featured in the commercial/trailer for the movie Never Back Down. Thanks to kenmaster in the comments for the last update for the news. :]
According to a message on Flyleaf’s Say Now page that Jared left, the band will be headed to Africa at the end of this European tour to visit children that both Lacey and Sameer sponsor. They’ll be going with World Vision, an organization that Flyleaf has been giving money to through the sales of the Music as a Weapon EP and this t-shirt. They should be there for a couple of days to do work before returning home to Texas to do a show on March 13th. Here’s an excerpt from an article about the band going platinum in regards to the Africa trip:
FLYLEAF will be traveling to Rwanda with World Vision this March to experience first hand the work being done to address the current HIV/AIDS epidemic, in addition to World Vision’s plans to provide aid in the aftermath of the 1994 Genocide. Upon their return to the US, FLYLEAF will be the flagship artist for World Vision’s “Use Your Voice” campaign. With the band’s partnership, the campaign will raise awareness and funding for programs that transform the lives of orphans and children in Africa who have been impacted by HIV/AIDS.
The Passerby Army chat with Sameer went really well. I think around 40 people were involved, and it was really hard to keep up, but it was cool. Pat showed up about 15 minutes after Sameer did, surprising everyone. A lot of fun facts were learned about the two of them including Sameer’s favorite authors, what Have We Lost means and something about Pat wearing high heels. All in all, a good time was had by all.
The frequently asked questions page was updated with the meaning of Have We Lost and some info about what Lacey sings before Justice and Mercy at shows. In addition to that, a few more tour dates have been added.
As far as fans/media goes, the fan tattoos page has been updated with Kayla’s tattoo and story. Some new wallpapers were also added thanks to Marley.
Sameer will be getting online this Sunday, February 17th at 5:00pm EST /
2:00pm PST (11pm Munich time) to chat with all of you! The last chat with
Jared went really well and Lacey even dropped by at the end so you never
know who might make a surprise visit. Start thinking about your questions
now and see you Sunday.
If you haven’t already, check out Passerby Army to get awesome exclusives.
Also to amend a previous news item — Flyleaf will be in Rolling Stone on February 22nd, 2008 instead of the previous February 8th. Sorry about that. :]
The tour dates from the first leg of the Seether/Flyleaf Co-Headlining shows have been posted. The first round of pre-sales will begin on February 11, 2008, and will only be available through Flyleaf’s Official Fanclub Passerby Army. As soon as the second leg of the tour gets posted, I’ll add it to the tour page.
Sameer posted on the band’s MySpace today in regards to the ‘Christian band’ questions/comments they always receive. He answered a lot of questions that a lot of people may have about the topic, so if you’re interested, you should definitely take a second to read it.
There have been many messages about whether we’re a Christian band or not, so I just decided to post one of my replies in a blog for everyone to read.
Brace yourself. This is long-winded.
To clear everything up we are all Christians. We all love God and strive to live and perceive the world like Jesus would. Not necessarily like today’s “Church” would, but how the apostle’s and, more importantly, how Jesus explained how we should by the examples given to us in the Bible. Yes, we are Christians. But there is a dispute among everyone, even us in the band. Not one that we fight about, but one that is light-hearted and fun to discuss. It’s the issue of whether we are a “Christian band” or not, and what that means.
The Seether & Flyleaf Co-Headlining tour has been confirmed by Passerby Army and the Flyleaf Street Team. The dates will be announced tomorrow on the Street Team, and some new promotion orders will be sent out as well. Everyone should think about joining both the fanclub and the ST. It’s really a great way to support the band, and you get news before anyone else.
As you know, Flyleaf is hitting the road with Seether this Spring. The band is excited to offer members of their official fan club, Passerby Army, presale tickets before the general public can get them– and at lower services fees. Not only will members of Passerby Army be able to purchase tickets before everyone else – members will also have the chance at winning a Meet and Greet with Flyleaf!
The only way to gain access to these tickets and perhaps win a Meet and Greet is by becoming a member now. Fan club members also get a membership t-shirt, access to a fan club only website with exclusive news, special contests, a private message board and chat rooms. Recently both Jared and Lacey hopped on the Passerby Army chat board with fan club members. Please go to www.passerbyarmy.com to signup for the fan club. Instructions on the presale will be posted in the news section of the fan club shortly.
Also, Flyleaf will be featured in Rolling Stone magazine. The issue that they’re featured in should hit stands February 22nd, so I’ll try to pick up a copy to scan. So look for that in the next few weeks as well. :D
Flyleaf has officially gone Platinum as of today. They’ve shipped over 1,000,000 albums. It’s really awesome to see that even after 2 years of this album being out, people are still supporting the music. It’s spent over 90 weeks on the Billboard Top 200 chart.
Big, heartfelt congratulations Pat, Lacey, Sameer, Jared and James. You guys are amazing people, and you make beautiful music.
I have lots and lots of updates tonight, starting with the chart history page. Breathe Today has moved up a few spots to #36 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. In addition to that, the tour page has been updated with new dates. Flyleaf will be playing a few Christian festivals this summer including Creation and Sonshine. I added a show count to each year, and a total one to the main tour page as well. After tallying them all up, the band has played over 550 shows since 2002 that I’ve logged in the tour section. I’m sure there’s more that I don’t have, but still. That’s crazy.
In the media section, I’ve added a few new interviews with radio stations that the band has done. We also have a new wallpaper thanks to Marley. As promised, the entire Columbia show has been posted. A big thanks to Spree for shooting that, and uploading it. Also, a new interview with James for Vic Firth has been uploaded.
The fans section has been updated with a brand new tattoo thanks to Jenn. A few new pieces of fan art have also been added thanks to Mooncownow, Nichola and Hope.
Don’t forget that tonight [January 27] is the night to talk with Jared in the Passerby Army chat room. It’s going to be happening at 6PM EST. There’s about an hour before he gets in there, so everyone still has plenty of time to join and check out the chat.
Okay, the chat is over. Jared and Lacey were both in there talking to people and answering questions. A transcript might be posted on Passerby Army in the future, so if you missed it, look out for that.
Some news that came from the chat includes a possible co-headlining tour with Seether in the spring and after that, Jared said they hoped to work on their new album.
Quick album/chart update: The band is up to 938,745 albums sold, and 985,000 shipped. Only a couple more weeks for 1,000,000. :D Also, Z100, the biggest pop station in the country, has added All Around Me to their rotation. From what I understand, it’s being played quite a bit too.
I also come bearing media updates tonight. I actually got off my butt and made some graphics for the site. First, I added a new set of signatures made from caps from the Special Edition CD/DVD. There’s one for each band member. I also made a set of 6new wallpapers. There’s a full band one, as well as one for each member.
As far as videos, I’m working on the Columbia show that Spree recorded, so that should be up next time. For now, I’ve added 2 new interviews from Cornerstone 2007 and The Zone in 2006. Both of the videos have either Sameer or Lacey talking about the band’s faith in depth, which is really awesome.
On the fan art page, I also added 2 iPhone wallpapers that Bill did. Big thanks to him for sending those in.
Jared Hartmann is going to be doing a live chat with fans that have joined Passerby Army on January 27, 2008 at 6pm EST. If you want to participate in the chat, but haven’t joined, now would be an awesome time to do so. It’s only $25.00 plus shipping, and you get a t-shirt, access to a members only site [with live chats with band members obviously :P], exclusive photos, contests and more.
Flyleaf has been featured in this months Kerrang! Magazine. The article touches on Lacey’s early life with her mother, her conversion to Christianity, how the band started, and what their music and message is all about. It’s a good read so everyone should check it out.
The amazingly awesome 4 song acoustic set shot by Geordy is now up in the video section. The videos are really nice, and the audio is great. Sameer and Lacey did Sorrow, I’m So Sick, Cassie and There for You. Everyone should check them out. :D
The chart history page has been updated again. The band is up to #11 on the Top Modern Rock/Alternative Albums chart, and Breathe Today debuted at #39 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Their album count is 980,000 shipped and 931,400 sold. Only 20,000 to go. :D
A new fan tattoo has been added thanks to Brit. Her story is really nice, so you should take a look. The fan testimonials page has also been updated with 6 awesome stories.
I’m glad everyone likes the new look of the site. :D Thanks for the comments guys. You all are pretty awesome.
We’ve got a few updates tonight. First off, the chart history page has been updated with some new stuff. In addition to that, the photoshop brushes have been updated with Flyleaf’s new logos and a new image pack to go with the brushes.
The radio has been updated with live versions Broken Wings and Penholder from a 2004 show at Antone’s. The mp3’s have been available on the site for years, but never on the radio. If you haven’t heard them, you should take a listen. Those are two of the band’s most amazing songs in my opinion.
Lots of video updates tonight. I’ve finally learned how to edit videos, so yay for that. First, we have the official 4 acoustic teasers from the CD/DVD. We also have most of the Edgefest 2007 show which is pro-shot. The sound isn’t too awesome, but it’s pretty good overall. 3 Interviews from 2006 have been added. One of them is basically the SRE Recordings EPK, but with a bunch more footage. We’re working on loads more video [including what might be the oldest recorded Flyleaf show and a 4 song pro-shot acoustic set], so I’m sure there’ll be a ton more by the time I update again.
Edit: New layout. The past layouts page has been updated. Enjoy!
Flyleaf is now getting a promotional push in the UK. They have a brand new UK official site and I’ve read that the album is being released there. I’m assuming the promo is because the band will be spending a lot of time overseas touring with Korn, which is awesome.
Speaking of awesome stuff, between the last two weeks, the band has sold over 36,000 copies of their album. They’ve shipped 975,000 copies of it, which means they’re only 25,000 away from reaching platinum. All Around Me is also getting airplay enough on pop stations to chart at #82 on the Pop 100 Billboard Chart.
As far as media goes, a bunch of new fanart pieces and wallpapers have been added. Thank you to everyone who donated.
A new part of the fan section has been instated. It’s a page called fan testimonials. You can read about it on that page, and submit your entries.
After muchos digging through hours upon hours of footage, editing, rendering and general technological fun, the Artist of the Week spots from the band’s week on MTV are now posted, complete with streams, as well as HQ tv rips and LQ for the dialup users.
I’m pretty sure we got everything, so I hope everyone enjoys them. :D
It’s been a long time coming, but the opportunity to buy the Music as a Weapon EP is now available. It costs five dollars, and as far as I know, the proceeds from the sales still go to World Vision. In addition to that, a bunch more t-shirts, a hoodie and the album can now be purchased.
In the media section, 4 new pieces of fanart were added thanks to Michelle, Isha, Collie and Melissa. Also, I ripped 6 MTV Artist of the Week spots. I’ll have about 6 hours of MTV footage to sort through by the end of the night, and Ali has some as well. So once we get a second to sort through all that, there will hopefully be a bunch more to watch.
Over 500 photos have been added to the gallery since I last linked any in an update. Check them out. :D
There is a brand new iTunes EP called the All Around Me Holiday Bundle. It includes the tracks All Around Me, All Around Me (Acoustic) as well as Do You Hear What I Hear. If you’ve been looking for a cheap way to buy those three songs, you should check it out.
Also on iTunes, Flyleaf is featured as a Best of 2007 Editor’s Choice. You can go here to check out.
A bunch more merch has been added to the band’s official webstore. Most of it is older tour stuff that was never available online until now.
A new Flyleaf widget for your desktop has been released recently. It’s called the Flyleaf Transmitter and it has cool features like news, tour, music and other stuff too. It’s well designed and handy, so everyone should download it if they’re interested. It comes in both a PC and a Mac version.
If I don’t update again before Christmas, I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. :]
According to Flyleaf’s MySpace, Flyleaf is going to be featured as MTV’s Artist of the Week the week of December 24, 2007. What an amazing Christmas present. :D Tune in during that week to see special Flyleaf segments during commercial breaks. It should be awesome.
