Flyleaf have basically spent the past seven years on the road. Driven by a seemingly otherworldly determination, they’ve played hundreds of gigs (including shows in Afghanistan), logged thousands of miles and basically willed sales of their self-titled 2005 debut past the 1 million mark.
Not surprisingly, it hasn’t exactly been a picnic.
“We’ve seen so, so much. Good times, really bad, really trying times, all of it,” frontwoman Lacey said. “We’ve encountered near-death experiences and death experiences so often within these past few years that we’ve been reminded that we are mortal and our days our precious. That’s what we’ve learned from all this, and that’s the message we want to spread.”
So, driven once again by that otherworldly determination, and buoyed by a newfound sense of purpose, Flyleaf are gearing up to start the machine again. On October 27, they’ll release Memento Mori, an album that takes its name from the Latin caveat “remember, you shall die.” Working once again with producer Howard Benson, Flyleaf have expanded on the crunching, doomy guitars and soaring vocal melodies that made their ’05 debut a hit, but this time out, Mosley and company aren’t just exploring the dark and depressing. Like the title of the album implies, there’s a newfound focus on realizing dreams and living life to the fullest.
“The whole theme of the album is summed up by the title — Memento Mori — that everything comes to an end and that we’re mortal and we’re going to die,” guitarist Sameer Bhattacharya said. “But in all of that, there’s hope and a bigger picture. It’s beautiful, when you think about it, the idea that every day is precious.”
It’s a message echoed on songs like “Arise” — on which Lacey sings, “Arise, and be all you dreamed” — and the first single “Again,” for which Flyleaf shot a green-screen-heavy clip last week in Los Angeles with director Meiert Avis. (Bhattacharya said the end result will resemble Radiohead’s “Like Spinning Plates” video.)
The message in that song, according to Lacey, is simple: Don’t waste time worrying about the stuff you can’t change. It’s something she’s had to learn in her own life, and no, it wasn’t exactly a picnic.
“With the songs that we write, we talk really openly and honestly about our struggles and about battling inner demons ourselves,” she said. “So the kids just naturally want to tell us their struggles and the demons they deal with, and I love ‘em so much. … I wish I could hug them all and make it better, but that’s not always good enough. It doesn’t make it better. So you just have to trust that God’s bigger than we are, and the kids keep going.
“In part of my maturing process, I have to learn how to hear those things and still be compassionate but also let them go and trust God with everything,” she continued. “Because, you know, I’m not God, and that’s a relief.”
According to the , the video for Sorrow will premiere on MTV2 Unleashed tomorrow, April 26th. You can catch it at the top of every music hour starting Saturday morning or on . As soon as we can, we’ll also have the video available here on Flyleaf Online for download along with caps for graphics.

Flyleaf has been featured in this months . The article touches on Lacey’s early life with her mother, her conversion to Christianity, how the band started, and what their music and message is all about. It’s a good read so everyone should check it out.
To the couple people who had a question about the scrapbook project, I wanted to clear something up. There will be an indefinite amount of books as long as you guys keep sending in stuff for them. So don’t feel like you’re too late because you missed the first one. :D
In the article section, a new interview/article was posted where Lacey talks about the 2007 FVT, her early life, and her musical influences. The frequently asked questions got updated with the meaning to Perfect. In addition to that, the chart page was updated again. All Around Me is up to #20 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
Other than that, a couple of new fan tattoos have been added, as well as Shiloh’s story. So everyone should check those out.
Thank you to everyone who commented on the new layout and suggested things for the new fan section. I appreciate all the kind words and I’ll definitely look into getting some of the sections setup that people requested. :D
In the band section, a new interview with Lacey was posted. It’s a fairly recent interview where she talks about the Justice and Mercy tour as well as the upcoming FVT. Some tour dates were edited, and a bunch were archived. Also, some new numbers were updated on the chart page. Flyleaf had a big sales boost this week and are currently #105 on the Billboard Top 200.
The media section was updated with 3 new videos. One is an interview that the band did with IMF. The other two are live videos. One is Again from Chambersburg and the other is Justice and Mercy from Camden.
I setup the beginnings of the fan tattoos page. I’ve still got a couple to add. If you have a tattoo that pertains to Flyleaf, feel free to shoot me an email with a picture and your story.
The All Around Me video will be premiering on Fuse’s Oven Fresh next week, and on on June 28th. When the time comes, be sure to vote for Flyleaf on .
In addition to that, I’m So Sick will be featured in the movie Live Free Or Die Hard which is the 4th Die Hard movie which is pretty cool. If you go to see the movie, be sure to listen for the song.
In the band section, one new article was added. It features mainly Jared which is a cool rarity. It’s nice to hear what he has to say. All Around Me has debuted at #40 on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks. More numbers/stats were updated on the charts page. Also, the tour dates were updated a bit.
On the video page, 5 new videos were added. Thanks to Ali for getting the SCTV Interview, and to Tracie and Anthony for donating live videos.

In the band section, I updated the chart history page numbers with stats from Christian Rock charts. Perfect is currently #1 according to , so congratulations to Flyleaf on that.
The wallpaper section was updated with one new desktop made by Beckie. In addition to that, three new videos were added to the video page. One of those is I’m Sorry from the White Rabbit, and the other two videos are from Kat Hartmann. The first is of Jared sending a message to the fans, and the other is of the band before they go on stage in Oklahoma.
For everyone who doesn’t frequent MySpace or the official board much, Jared wrote a about their time in Australia. It includes a couple of really nice pictures.
Some related news — Octone has merged with A&M records. So Flyleaf will be moving over to that new label instead of just Octone. Everyone can read more about it .
I recently updated the chart info page with a new number for Fully Alive. It looks like it’s gone up 3 slots to #31 on the Hot Modern Tracks chart.
In the audio section, I uploaded the audio from Flyleaf’s cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit. The direct link to download that is here. In the video section, the video from the performance was also added.
In the gallery, some HQ scans of the I’m So Sick international single have been uploaded as well as some HQ shots from the I’m So Sick set. In addition to that, the gallery has another new layout thanks to . Click on the respective pictures to be taken to the galleries.
The official was updated with a blog yesterday by Jared. Everyone should pop over there and see what he had to say.
As far as site updates go — I switched around the sidebars a little. Now the merch part has links to where you can buy the first full sized Flyleaf poster, preorder a guitar tab book, and other stuff too. I got one of the posters, and it’s really nice. I’ll let everyone know about the tab book when it comes out.
The video section has been heavily updated in the past few days, with big thanks to Ali, Resident Hero and Caleb. First off, one live acoustic of I’m So Sick from Japan has been added here. Lacey prefaces the performance with an explanation of I’m So Sick, and Pat plays guitar. The live shows page was updated with the last videos from the Nokia Theatre that Ali shot. Andddd last but not least, a page full of videos was added here. Ryan White was kind enough to send some of the ‘Did somebody say Rock Star?’ videos, and their video for Vendetta Black that features Lacey on a DVD. In total, there are 4 videos. I added a little info about RH too. Everyone should check them out. Thank you to Caleb for encoding and fiddling with the pages.
The gallery has a brand new layout. I also disabled guest commenting because the spam was a little more than I could keep up with. In addition to that, I reset the view counts on all the pictures by mistake…because I’m awesome. Ain’t nuthin’ but a number anyway. Several albums were updated too.
All of the James Minchin photoshoot outtakes are now in much higher quality so enjoy. :D
Edit: The video page was updated with two more performances from the Six Flags show. Brittany’s been a busy worker bee lately so I hadn’t had a chance to tell her they were ready for the new update. Enjoy. –Caleb
Hey everyone — glad you’re liking the new layout. I’ll see what I can do about adding the acoustic Supernatural to the radio.
In the band section, I added a new interview up that Pat and Sameer did while they were in Germany. They talk about making the record, and their time in Germany amongst other things.
The tour page was updated with a new date that the band is playing in New Hampshire. They’ll be doing a live show at Newbury Comics in Manchester and they’ll be signing autographs after the show. The show starts at 5PM and it’s free so get there early to get a good spot.
The video section is complete. Now you can stream every video on the site. Big, gigantic, enormous thank you to Caleb for doing the live shows page for me. He rules sometimes. :D
In the gallery, I uploaded an album of pictures from Flyleaf’s shows in Germany. I’m not sure which pictures are from where though, so I’ll have to sort them when I find out.
The Music as a Weapon Tour III dates have been released. I have the whole batch of them, along with Flyleaf’s TV appearances listed on the tour page. I also fixed up the navigation for the tour archive and made it a little easier to surf through.
Today is also the one year anniversary of the Flyleaf LP debut. They’ve come quite a long way in the past year, and they all deserve a big congratulations on it. So congrats!
Lacey has been recognized by AOL Music as being one of the Top 20 “Women Who Rock”. She came in at #11. You can read what they had to say about her .
Sean, the winner of Buzznet’s Fly Away contest was able to interview Flyleaf at the Boston date of the Family Values Tour. You can view the video .
In the gallery, a few photos from Flyleaf’s performance on were added. You can see Pat’s supa awesome sharpie ‘stache in a few of them. You can also get a pretty clear view of Lacey’s new hair. I know a lot of people have been asking for pictures of it.
I got bored and decided to switch around the layout a little. The gallery layout has a new header too. It’ll probably stay like this for a while, but heck, you never know with me.
I’m not entirely sure what’s going on with . A few people have asked through email, so I figured I should address it here. It seems to be a server issue since several other sites on the server are timing out. I’m not sure when it’ll be back up. Hopefully soon.
First bit of news — Flyleaf is releasing their debut album with Tina added to the tracklisting. It’ll also be enhanced with the Breathe Today video and the I’m So Sick video. When it becomes available, you can purchase it at Amazon.com. I’m not sure if that version will be available in stores or just as an import, but either way it’s pretty nice to have Tina on a CD.
The band section was updated with a couple new articles. One of them is called Texas Hard Rockers With A Taste For Literature and the other is an interview Sameer did with Sony Australia. Chart history was tweaked a little with a new albums sold count. Fully Alive has moved up another slot to #20 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
I also updated the since the official store has moved. In addition to new shirts, the prices have been raised to 30-35 dollars per t-shirt plus shipping [which is kind of outrageous]. I wonder if the shirts will be that expensive at shows. Anybody been to any Family Values dates that can vouch for the price of the shirts there?
In the media section, some new icons were added thanks to Anja. A handful of videos were added as well. The rest of the Juanita’s show and an interview from Rock Circus were added.
20 shots from Coors Amphitheater were put up. Those were taken by Scott Smith. A few more from Flyleaf’s Buzznet account were also added.
So, I’m back from my camping trip and I bear gifts of the Flyleaf caliber. Rejoice! Your Flyleaf drought is over! 8D
The discography section got a big facelift today. I added links to purchase the various EPs/Albums, and I also added the Rolling Stone Originals EP along with the Walmart EP. Also in the band section, I updated the chart history page with new numbers. Fully Alive has reached #28 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and the album has sold roughly 281,000 copies.
The video page was also broken up into sections because it was getting way too big. Four videos from The Complex show were added. More to come from that show later on. One from the Cornerstone festival was also put up.
I finally got my hands on the infamous Guitar World article for everyone to take a look at. Please remember that the whole thing is made up before taking it seriously. Also in the gallery, I added a nice shot of Lacey taken by . A bunch of snazzy photos from Cornerstone were uploaded thanks to . A set of photos from Flyleaf’s Discover and Download set from MTV.com were put up here. Those were taken by the wonderful .
I have updates! I know what you’re thinking. “No way!” Right? Totally with you on that one.
In the band section, I added a few interviews up. One of them is an interview with Lacey and the other is an interview with Pat. On the chart history page, I added Fully Alive’s status. It’s number #37 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. The FAQ was updated with another song meaning, and on the video information page I added the couple tidbits we know about the Fully Alive video.
On the audio page, a new acoustic version of I’m So Sick was added. A new photoshop brush page was put up as well. I added a set that includes logos and various pieces of the album art. If anyone has any other brushes they’d like to see, feel free to ask and I’ll see what I can do. One new signature was added thanks to Sleepwalker, and the rest of the Stubb’s BBQ videos were too.
I think it’s finally official. Flyleaf will be touring with Korn and Deftones this summer. Tickets are going to be only $9.99 for lawn seats, which is a steal. You can check out an article about the tour and what cities they’re going to be playing . Actual dates and venues haven’t been announced yet, but they should be soon. I also added up an article that MTV did on Flyleaf here. It touches on the album making process, their faith and a little bit about the tour.
A short interview from MTV’s Discover and Download was put up in the video section, and in the audio section, the show from the Webster was added. Thanks to Caleb and Tracie for those.
In the gallery, some pictures from Saratoga Winner’s were put up thanks to Patricia. Also added a bunch of pictures from the Webster thanks to Laurellz. A couple old Electric Factory pictures were added from the Snocore Tour.
Anyone want to see any new sections? The updates are getting moderately boring and I’m lost for ideas.
